We will evaluate for atherosclerosis (plaque) in the carotid arteries which carry blood flow to the brain. Narrowing of the carotid arteries can cause a stroke.
AAA is a ballooning of the abdominal aorta; it often has no symptoms and can be life threatening if the aorta ruptures.
We will evaluate perfusion (blood flow) to the ankles. Symptoms of decreased flow include pain and/or numbness of the leg(s); also the leg muscles may give out after walking a certain distance.
